Ship Design
KOMAC specializes in complete design development, which includes detailed drawings and design modifications tailored to the requirements of the ship owners or Shipyards.
KOMAC has a number of its own special designs to meet different operational demands. Our design work is closely allied with model test facilities. KOMAC has developed its own computer programs for ship design.
KOMAC welcomes any opportunity to discuss particular projects in detail with buyers and to explore how we may serve to bring projects to fruition in the earliest and smoothest possible time frame.

1. Conceptual Design
Establishing a concept and requirements for a new ship through discussion with ship owners and operators.

2. Feasibility Study
For the realization of a concept of a ship, several alternative technical proposals are studied with the objective of developing a system (in terms of a ship) that is most economical and meets the operating requirements established in the Conceptual Design stage.3. Preliminary Design
Determination of basic configuration (both hull and deck structure) as well as the broad compartmentation, subsystem requirements and building cost estimation based on the results of the feasibility study and the requirements of ship owner.

4. Hull Form Development
Lines of a ship with higher performance characteristics (resistance, propulsion, motion, maneuvering and stability) is designed based on the preliminary design results and technical experience of the designer. Performance characteristics of a ship are to be confirmed through model tests and theoretical analysis.

5. Contract Design
Plans and specifications from which most cost effective ship system can be constructed are developed to the point at which building contract of a ship can be executed.

6. Basic and Detail Design
Basic design of a ship system is developed based on the contract plans and specifications, relevant rules and regulations, etc. Requirements on deadweight, speed, capacity, stability, maneuverability, structural strength, noise and vibration are fully considered and applied to each ship system in this stage. Basic design includes hull form design, hydrostatic calculations and design of hull structure, hull-outfitting system, machinery system, piping system and electric/electronic system.

Detail design of ship systems for construction is carried out upon the request of the shipbuilders.
Other technical consultancy services of KOMAC are as follows:
- Technical assistance to ship owner or shipbuilder during a specification clarification stage
- Technical assistance to shipbuilder during technical meeting of machinery/equipment between shipbuilder and manufacturer including preparation of Purchase Order Specification for shipbuilder
- Technical assistance to ship owner or shipbuilder in every aspects and stages of ship design and construction
- Preparation of tender documents and drawings for competitive bids
- Evaluation of bid documents and drawings.

Structure Design
KOMAC can provide designs for all kinds of marine structures, including water gates, lock gates, marine cranes, and offshore structures.
KOMAC has designed numerous steel structures for a wide variety of applications including floating cranes, pressure vessels and lock gates for hydroelectric power plants. We are particularly proud of our joint consulting project with SOGREAH of France whereby we designed one of the world¡¯s largest lock gates for use at Korea¡¯s Inchon Harbor. Anyone planning to fabricate any type of industrial plant or machinery will find KOMAC amply qualified and prepared to provide complete designs and detailed drawings.
