Introduction: Korea Maritime Consultants Co., Ltd. (KOMAC)

Korea Maritime Consultants Co., Ltd. (KOMAC) was established in 1969 as Korea’s first and only private organization of naval architects and marine engineers. KOMAC has provided full range of professional services including ship design, construction supervision, and technical and management consultancy services to shipbuilders and ship owners of 23 countries since its establishment.

During last 35 years, KOMAC has designed more than 1,200 different classes and type of vessels ranging from fishing boats, pollution control vessels, hospital ships, coastal passenger boats to large containerships, product tankers, VLCCs, drilling rigs, platform barges and offshore floating structures for worldwide clients. KOMAC has also supervised the construction of more than 1,500 various types of vessels for foreign and domestic owners.

KOMAC has participated in the planning of nearly every major new shipyard projects and yard expansions in Korea. The projects for which KOMAC has provided feasibility studies include two huge ultra modern shipyards currently owned by Dawoo and Samsung Groups. KOMAC also has conducted feasibility studies and provided planning services for shipyard development projects in Tunisia, Mexico, Indonesia, and Iran.

KOMAC has provided technical consultations for numerous projects financed by Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, and IBRD. KOMAC is an officially registered consulting firm with ADB. KOMAC awarded ISO 9001 certificate for design and construction supervision of ships and marine structures from Veritas Quality International.
